Dear Prof. Menczer,

with reference to the recent letter to you from Prof Lo Re, I am also 
writing to apologize and I want to express my regret for what has happened.

I confirm what Prof. Lo Re says on this episode, and I want to stress the 
fact that I was completely unaware of any other source that Mr Gatani may 
have used, besides the two page paper published on WWW '04. He always 
claimed as his own the plagiarized ideas.

Together with Prof. Lo Re, I participated to the activities related to the 
redaction of some of the papers on the topic, although my scientific 
interests are mainly devoted to artificial intelligence and not to 
computer networks. This is why in these papers my name is always the 
last in the author list.

I also admit my personal negligence in following the whole event, and 
only now I understand the gravity of the situation and the extent of the 
damage that has occurred to you. Of course you are absolutely right in 
your disappointment. That is why I am expressing all my regret to you, 
hoping you will accept my sincere apologies. On my side, therefore, 
I am also taking all the necessary actions in order to have all the 
papers published on the topic withdrawn as soon as possible.

Let me also know if there is anything else you think I can do to repair the 
damage that has occurred to you and your co-authors.
